-- The fact that some people in this house are genetically incapable of moving at anything other than a glacial pace. Like, literally...slooooooooowly moving from point A to point B. Get out of my fucking way.
-- The fact that my husband and I and all other state workers have become the economy scapegoats in this state. (And beyond, but it's especially prevalent now with our anti-state-worker governor, who by the way lacks a college degree.) The rhetoric is that our benefits and salaries are the problem in the economy, so we should be sacrificed so that he can enact a tax cut. Yes, we have a giant deficit but he is going to implement a tax CUT. And fund it by putting state workers on the chopping block. This morning somebody actually called in to our local NPR station to rant about how state workers haven't felt the pain of this bad economy, unlike private industry workers, what with our yearly raises and great benefits so now it's time for us to PAY with a giant cut in salary and benefits. The fact that people believe this and are apparently unaware of our salary freezes over the last several years (no merit or cost of living raises, period), our furloughs (in my case that equates to a pay cut), our increased cost of contributing to our benefits, and our lower-than-market salaries means that the scapegoating rhetoric is totally working. Bonus points if you have to listen to that shit from know-it-all friends or family members.
-- People who use their Econ 101 knowledge to suggest "free market" solutions to everything, even things that don't exist in a free market or operate under free market rules. People are not widgets. Education and health care are not the same as sneakers; they should be human rights. And students are not customers.
-- Winter. It is February already. I get it that it's still going to be cold and snow, but February is too late in the year for the sub-zero bullshit.
Things that are amusing me:
-- Demetri Martin. I'm digging the sincere arbitrary humor thing.
-- Randomness of the 3-year old remarks. For instance, tonight at dinner Nora said, "Mommy do you have a thirsty turd in your pants?" No Nora, no I do not.
-- STFU Parents.
-- Sea Captain Date. Arrrgh.
-- Top Gear. The British are so funny sometimes.

I'm just pretty reluctant to try to figure out what a "thirsty turd" is (regardless of where it resides) . . .
