Kid Locomotion

Every single morning when we go into preschool, the kids RUN from the door down the hall to their classroom. Every single morning I call out, "Walk, don't run!" and they try to walk, in this bizarre, exaggerated slow series of movements, but they can never make it stick and inevitably break into a run again.

I am much more tolerant than many adults of kids running around. There is a common idea that you're not supposed to run indoors, but really, why? They're a little more likely to trip and fall when running, but my kids are just as likely to do that when walking. Running is natural for them. It seems pretty harmless as behaviors go.

Any time you're in a preschool or an elementary school you'll see that kids are always running everywhere. Kids don't really walk from point A to point B. They always run. At what age do people stop naturally running everywhere? How cool would it be if you went into an office setting and you found adults running around from place to place, the way little kids do?
